Planning Your Patio Awning
Size and Measuring Advice

Awnings are simply measured
in width (along the wall) and in
projection (the outward reach).
Width is always specified first,
so a '4.0m x 2.0m' is 4m wide.

Width: This is the size along
the wall. Most popular widths
range between 3.0m & 5.0m.
If aiming to shade a window
measure a little extra each
side to allow for angled sun.
It is desirable for awnings to
sit well with any existing wall
features. Avoid your chosen
width ending half way across
a window or a door. Aim for a
balanced look where possible.
Projection: This is how far the awning extends at its furthest reach.
Projections start at 1.5m (5ft). To create a good size 'outdoor room'
you should ideally be aiming for 3.0m or more. 3m is our most
popular requested projection size.

Obstacles: Look for obstacles that might limit your awning width or
restrict its outward movement. Drain "down-pipes" are obvious but
also check for high mounted heating flues etc. Wall lights can easily
be moved. Less obvious obstacles may include conservatory doors
that open outward into the awnings path or its folding arms.
